First - The setting

Isle a Vache is an underdeveloped tropical island lying approximately 9 miles off the southern coast of Haiti - the last place left in the Caribbean that feels like the real deal, so the cruisers tell us.

This island is roughly 11 miles long, 3 miles wide and has a population around 15,000. There is no electricity, no running water, no roads, almost no vehicles, and no industry to speak of. It feels like a step back in time, with a bit of the future mixed in.
